The Gnostic Gospel of Truth | Written by the Most Infamous Christian Heretic?
The Gnostic Gospel of Truth gives us one of the most interesting looks at the early formation of Valentinian Gnosticism! The philosophy, mythology and cosmology found in this gnostic gospel could very well have come from the pen of the most infamous 2nd century heretic himself, Valentinus.

When people glibly talk of multilingual capabilities around 30 AD, I constantly remind myself that a carpenter's son, his family, and his friends, in a tiny village whose population has been estimated through research to have been around 400 - 480, would undoubtedly have been exclusively Aramaic.

I think you are most likely correct, with the possible exception of the Greek language. Greek was the “Lingua Franca” of the ancient near east in 30 AD so it’s possible a historical Jesus was proficient enough in Greek to communicate it orally. Great insight Josephusk! Thanks for the comment!

At the the last supper Jesus didn't say anything about his cup being important. No one there at the table did either. Communion is no where in the Bible. Jesus does hand out bread and relate it to his flesh and then drink and relate it to blood but that was Jesus doing it and passing it out. In other parts there is celebration and bread and wine is given and it's in celebration of the last supper of which Jesus never said was needed. Celebration is fine but traditions of man is not.

The whole water thing sounds like what Jesus spoke against. Yes water, clean would be good. But lets not start making traditions of man where we do it because thats what our ancestors did and so we think it makes us closer to God but it doesn't actually it does the opposite.

People need to understand the Bible as we know it DID NOT EXIST until the KJV. Before that you weren't going to find Bibles everywhere. There were manuscripts. Some manuscripts would have a few small books in one or one large book in one. I think one of the longest manuscripts of one of the books of the Bible was upwards of 28 feet long. King James put them all in one book and translated. Anything left out is still around. But like they say, it's not canonical. It doesn't have God speaking directly or doesn't pertain to Jesus or isn't from one of the disciples or from an author that is that of one from the Bible. So they aren't included. It's not complicated.

The Catholic Church surprisingly enough didn't always have "communion" or the "sacrament" w/e you want to call it. Not sure I needed quote marks for that... John Wycliffe said while he was alive that they had only been doing it for 200 years and he lived in the late 1400's.

none of the gospel accounts are historical accounts. Historically, Pilate probably didn’t even care - to him it was probably one more Jewish insurrectionist. Jesus would have been no different from anyone else Pilate sent to be crucified. The gospel accounts are telling us important things about Jesus’ character by juxtaposing him to Barabbas (who represents violent resistance to Rome) and to Pilate (who represents the Roman Empire). First off - crucifixion was only used as a punishment for treason and insurrection. Second, when arresting violent insurrectionists Rome would arrest and crucify the leaders and as many followers as they could catch because leaving them on the loose would have been too dangerous. But when arresting non-violent resistors, Rome would arrest and crucify the leaders but wouldn’t worry about the followers. They would arrest and crucify the leader and the followers would scatter liked frightened sheep. Which is exactly what happened to Jesus. They crucified Jesus and his followers scattered like frightened sheep. John’s Gospel goes further by having the dialogue between Jesus and Pilate. Most Christians have interpreted the line “My kingdom is not of this world” as meaning Jesus’ kingdom is in Heaven - and that would be correct if Jesus had stopped talking there, but he doesn’t stop talking there. Jesus qualifies the “My kingdom is not of this world” statement with, “If my kingdom were of this world, my followers would be in here fighting to liberate me right now.” In other words, “we would use force and violence just like you.” A kingdom is a nation - a kingdom is a form of government. A nation - or government that has never used force or violence has never existed in this world.

This is not saying that it was "possible" that it was an early Christian practice to kill children by abortion, quite the contrary: it is saying that it was a cultural norm that the pagans did and the Christians were forbidden to do. It was a practice for children to be "exposed," I.e., left out in the wilderness to be killed either by the weather or by wild animals, if the child was not the desired gender of the parents. Early Christians were known to be very unusual in that they would go out and find these doomed children and raise them as their own, which is why it specifically mentions the practice of murdering a child both via abortion and "by killing it once it is born." Both were practices that were known in the first century, which is why the didache mentions them directly as things not to do.

Matthew and John had direct memories of what Jesus said and did. Mark had the direct memory of Peter, his mentor. Luke had Paul and the other apostles to learn from. The Church father Papias said Matthew was written first, in Hebrew. Matthew was later translated to Greek. Then Mark was written in Greek. Luke was written before Acts. Important teaching like the Lord's prayer and the Sermon on the Mount I would expect to be taught by Jesus more than once over three and a half years of His ministry. This would allow different apostles to put the same teachings in different contexts. I expect some of the apostles took written notes of Jesus's teachings and repeated them as they preached in the decades afterward. This is what Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John referred to as they wrote the four gospels.

14:55 - This does not indicate, that 'provoked abortion' was accepted practices amongst the Christians?! ..It's more likely, the writer try to establish and underline, a clear misunderstanding amongst some deviating individuals(who wanted to call themselves Christians ..or wanted to 'be seen as' Christians, while practicing these deviations at the same time)!! But just because a role/letter is old, doesn't mean it's also right! - Infact, Paul talks(warns the readers) about many false gospels, that spread around, poisoning and corrupting the true Christianity. ...that he had the hard job fighting these false gospels!! When Christianity is simplified/narrowed down to "how to practice rituals" alone ...you should know for sure, this is a "dead end"(false 'uninspired' source)!
